Shutting down the Windows Server

Keep in mind that users may be in the process of reading a document consisting of multiple linked pages and inline images or sounds. Each page or inline item is read with a separate transaction. Therefore, you should watch the server icon for a "while" before deciding to shut down your server.

To shut down the server, click once on its icon and choose Close in the popup "system" menu. You will hear a beep indicating that the server has received your request to shut down. The server will quit immediately.

If the server window is open, choose Exit in the Control menu, Close in the "system" menu (click once in the upper left corner control box), or double click the control box. Again, the server will acknowlege your request with a beep, then exit thereafter.

Use of SHUTSRVR.EXE

The server comes with a little program called SHUTSRVR.EXE, which will shut down the server. This is useful when you want to programmatically reboot your system using WinCron or other timed execution facility.
